Greetings minions,
The Amplified Productions 'Hardcore Showdown' of March 30th was a massive success and thoroughly enjoyed by over 400 people who attended the earth-shattering event. 6 brutal metalcore bands, headlined by Melbourne band ‘Picture the End’, ripped up the stage and shook the foundations of EV’s Youth Centre with a barrage of distorted mayhem. The turnout was equally impressive, with hundreds of adrenaline filled youths thrashing around the dance floor in hardcore excitement. This was our most successful event yet, and there is plenty more to come, so stay tuned for more gigs of the same high calibre in 2007.

This year’s Maroondah Festival proved to be an explosive day with the likes of “The Getaway Plan” gracing the stage. Leading and taking full power at headlining position; things looked like they were going to work out just fine. The anticipation was killing us all as Redrum ripped opened the stage, the first band for the day and I’m sure everyone agrees, they nailed it like Jesus the Carpenter. Following them was the EV's Battle of the Bands winners, “The Scene Conspiracy” which set the crowd alight.
Beyond Mine, Forgiven Rival, Julliets End, Closure in
Moscow showed that all the fun couldn’t be taken out by the two local bands. All of them played as hard as they could, despite the insane 42o heat, leaving no space on stage un-danced upon.
When The Getaway Plan stepped onto stage, the energy from the crowd and the band filled the stage and the surrounding areas. High pitched squealing by members of both sexes- all round. These guys proved that waiting was definitely worth it. The crowd went into a moshing frenzy brought on by the power of the Plan. Even with the heat that was melting the air around you, the band played solid and the crowd responded.
A monster day had by all.
Same place, same time next year for another Maroondah Fest experience.
Doug Ewert- Feb 2007

Once upon a time, two friends had an epic conversation.
"Hey Jenna,” Pat said. “Sup?”
“Oh hey Pat!!!” Jenna replied with an enthusiastic wave. “Not much! Did you hear about that cool event happening down at EV’s Youth Centre in Croydon on Friday August 4th?”
“Oh, you mean PUNKFEST?!?! The most extravagantastic, hard-rockin’ annual punk gig in
Melbourne ?” Pat asked, spraying Jenna with saliva. “Why no! Tell me about it!”
“Well!” Jenna began, “those Krazy Kiwis The Bleeders and Qurazy Queenslanders The Disables are co-headlining the Main Stage! And I hear they’re being supported by legendary falcons No Idea, Bagster, Mister Coffee, The Resignators and Marching Orders!!”
“Wow, that’s pretty crazy!” Pat laughed. “Hey, and is it true that Steppin Razor, Angry Kid, Blacklodge Sounds, Mispent Youth, The Duvtons, The Fierce and This War are ALL rockin’ the Nosh Stage?”
“Oh, you better believe it is.” Jenna confirmed in a manner reminiscent of a villain in an old Western movie. “And what’s more, tickets are only $15!! That’s 14 awesome bands for just over a dollar each!”
“Wow! Sounds like it’s gonna go off like milk left out in the sun!” Pat exclaimed excitedly through a mouthful of multigrain bread. “I’m not gonna be able to sleep at night until I pick up my PUNKFEST presale ticket from Missing Link, Fist2Face or Hans Music Spot!!”
“I know what you mean. I wouldn’t risk missing out on one of the best punk lineups I’m likely to see this year, or even maybe EVER.” Jenna mused.
“Oh hey, this is a smoke, drug and alcohol free event.” Pat said with a warning yet comforting tone. “And management reserves the right to refuse entry.”
“Ok,” Jenna said as she walked away. “Cool.”

FReeZA Reward and Recognition Awards.
On Saturday 10 th December 2005, the Maroondah FReeZA Group - Operation YELL were invited to attend the Push Start Annual FReeZA awards night at Prahran Town Hall. The Victorian Office for Youth sponsored the awards night which included performances from Frenzal Rhomb, Body Jar and many more high quality performances.
Operation YELL were nominated for the Achievement Award -‘Outstanding FReeZA Event of the Year’ for their recent November sell out Battle A Ya Bands competition, which incidentally was the very first gig that they have held. To the group’s amazement they actually won the award on the night and were presented certificates from Frenzal Rhomb and Body Jar band members, they were then asked to give a short speech about the gig and how they managed to organise such a successful event, which had almost 600 people attend.
The group were also called to the stage for the second time to receive certificates for 'Outstanding Individual Achievement' and contribution to the Victorian Governments FReeZA program. Each participant in Operation YELL received this individual achievement award; the only group in Victoria to each receive an outstanding achievement award.
The recent recognition that Operation YELL has received from Jacinta Allan, the Victorian Government’s Minister for Employment and Youth Affairs is proof of how well this program and group is progressing in Maroondah. They deserve to be congratulated and we look forward to the events that they are planning for the near future including the Maroondah Festival on February 19th and an acoustic night on March 3rd.

Last Friday Night at EV’s Youth Centre, the Maroondah FReeZA Group ‘Operation YELL’ held the biggest ever opening gig in the history of the venue, with close to 600 young punters through the door. A mixture of young people, parents and teachers came from far and wide to watch the 8 vibrant young bands battle it for the star prize of performing at Maroondah Festival in February and they were certainly not disappointed with the performance. The styles of the bands all varied and the quality of the performers were extremely high making it very difficult for our judges to select the 2 winners.
After much deliberation and a performance from top headliner band Tiltmeter, the winners were announced to the lively crowd. Mitch from last years winning Band In the Vicinity made the announcement that in first place was local band Next Day Waiting, and in second place were the Croydon band Celadore. The crowd responded with roars and cheers, which showed the judges that they also agreed with their selection, even though they seemed to enjoy every bands performance, the energetic crowd were certainly a key player in making the night so enjoyable. There were plenty more prizes won on the night by both bands and punters and the feedback from the event has been very positive. For Pictures of the event see the Photo Gallery & the Battle of the Bands page on this website.
An enthusiastic Operation YELL are already planning the next gig, the Maroondah Festival Youth Precinct’ which is sure to be even bigger and better! Watch this space for up coming details about the event, which is happening on Sunday 19th February & is sure to be a hot one!
The Maroondah Employment and Training Professional Development Session held at EV's Youth Centre on Friday 4th November 2005 was a great success, attracting over 70 participants.
The collaborative event was initiated by the Maroondah Youth Service Providers Network and supported by the Outer Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network, Maroondah/Manningham School Focused Youth Service and Maroondah City Council Youth Services. The event provided local workers an opportunity to increase their awareness and understanding of employment and training pathways available to young people and how the local employment and training service system operates.
Alan Montague delivered an informative and interactive key note address which encouraged us all to think creativly and work collaboratively in delivering quality services and opportunities to young people. Sixteen local employment and training service providers (representing over 24 agencies) hosted displays which provided participants with valuable information sharing, as did the three workshops facilitated by nine local workers with young people.
Evaluation findings from the session along with the great amount of chatter on the day indicate that the event was an extremely valuable networking and information sharing exercise - both being extremely benefical outcomes for the local service system.

Youth Services In Maroondah Directory Note: As Workshop 1 - Strategies For Engaging Young People In Appropriate Pathways was a discussion group notes are not avaliable.
Please note the Q & A Paper to be created based on findings from the 'What Do You Want To Know' Consultation conducted after the key note address is currently being compiled. Upon completion the document will be e-mailed to participants and also posted on this website. Please also note that findings from evaluation surveys submitted will be e-mailed to participants upon final collation.
Once again a big thank you to all involved in the planning and delivery of the event and those who participated. We look forward to future professional development sessions with you in 2006.
As stated the event was an initiative of the Maroondah Youth Service Providers Network. The purpose of the network is to play a key role in the development and maintenance of an integrated, co-ordinated and collaborative service system that works towards the improvement of service provision to young people in Maroondah.
If you are not currently a member of the Maroondah Youth Service Providers Network and would like to be and/or require any further information on the Maroondah Employment and Training Professional Development Session please do not hesitate to contact me on 9298 4474 or bruff@maroondah.vic.gov.au.
